We are a Seward, Alaska based guiding and hiking company focused on providing affordable tours in the Exit Glacier area of Kenai Fjords National Park. We have been running our hiking tours out of Seward for seven years now, and we are the only company in town offering guided glacier tours. Our tours allow adventurous folks to ice climb and hike directly on the surface of this magnificent natural attraction. We also offer a cheap ride to Exit Glacier from Seward via an hourly, eco-friendly $10 shuttle.

Shuttle
Activity provided by Exit Glacier Guides
For those that don't have five hours to devote to our tours, or for those who prefer to see the glacier in a more leisurely or independent fashion, Exit Glacier Guides offers an affordable, hourly shuttle from Seward's small boat harbor to the park and back. Exit Glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park has several short, paved/gravel promenades that lead up to the face of the glacier from the park's parking lot. These trails are not difficult, and by using our shuttle, most visitors can see the majority of the lower park in well under two hours at a relaxed pace, although much more time can be spent exploring the area. The shuttle departure times are coordinated with the free tours of the lower park that are given by the rangers several times a day, so you'll be there right as the rangers depart the nature center. The rangers also offer a children's program during the day.

Ice Hiking
Activity provided by Exit Glacier Guides
Difficulty: Moderate
One of our signature tours. This five-hour tour is the perfect experience for outdoor enthusiasts who really want to dig in and explore what Alaska has to offer. We at Exit Glacier Guides believe that the more effort you put into a hike, the more you get out of it. Consequently, our hike takes people up an hour-long incline, through an alpine valley, down a 45º rock scree, and onto the surface of Exit Glacier itself. While you don't have to be a track star or a sherpa to complete the tour, it does take a little effort and a willingness to get tired and a smidge dirty in order to reach the glacier. Exit Glacier Guides offers visitors to Seward, Ak a chance to see an unique natural wonder close-up - and since it takes a little work to get there - our groups see it without a crowd. We are the only tour operator in the area doing a comparable tour, and we humbly assert that this is a darn good one. Also, due to the constantly changing nature of the glacier, no two tours of ours are ever the same. We start on a well-maintained national park trail and proceed 1.6 miles up into the mountains. This portion of the trip takes about an hour to an hour and a half. During the hike, our knowledgeable guides identify many of the native plants and flowers and also use the landscape's unique features to explain basic glaciology. Quite frequently we see black bears, moose, and marmots along the way. When we reach the ice, we don crampons, ice axes, and helmets. This gear lets us safely navigate the icy, undulating terrain of Exit Glacier. It also lets us confidently approach the crevasses, waterfalls, moulins, and ice-caves that we encounter while exploring. We're proud of this trip. If you love the outdoors and want to have a truly memorable experience in Alaska, come on the glacier with us. We're confident that you'll be proud of our trip too.

Ice Climbing
Activity provided by Exit Glacier Guides
Difficulty: Moderate to Hard
This is THE opportunity to learn basic Ice Climbing and to spend hours exploring an ever-changing glacier! You don't need any experience or special equipment to come climb with us, just a sense of adventure. We provide small client to guide ratios of 3:1 on this tour, which is led by experienced instructors who use carefully maintained equipment to lead you out onto the ice. Our tours are designed to not only expose you to the world of Ice Climbing, but also to spend a large amount of time on the glacier just simply exploring and finding amazing features around every corner—or crevasse. We start our trip at our office in Seward Alaska to outfit you with all the necessary equipment. Just bring the recommended clothing and a camera and we’ll provide everything else including technical equipment, backpack, and trekking poles. Our shuttle Duke will transport us to Exit Glacier where a 50 minute hike through a de-glaciated landscape brings us to the edge of the glacier. Donning our crampons we first find a gentle slope to teach the basics of climbing, crampon usage and safety. Then it’s on to the crevasse fields where we will ascend bigger walls and explore some of the more remarkable physical features of the glacier. While this tour does not require climbing experience, the physical ability to be outside hiking, climbing and pushing your athletic abilities is a must. We hike a total of about 4.5 miles and gain and lose about 1500 feet of elevation. The payoff is a secluded mountain experience and vistas that will be with you forever. Tap into that adventurer, explorer, thrill seeker and/or inner child and join us for the ultimate Glacier Experience!

Helicopter Ice Hiking
Activity provided by Exit Glacier Guides

Difficulty:  Easy

An adventure of a lifetime awaits on this spectacular fly-in glacier exploration in Seward. Flying out of the Seward Airport the helicopter trip takes you soaring over rugged mountain peaks to a remote glaciated valley. Dramatically flowing out of an isolated alpine mountain ice field, our destination just south of Godwin glacier presents some of the most exciting glacier hiking in the state. Our helicopter will land at the toe of the glacier where you will be outfitted with crampons, helmets and ice axes. Your guide will instruct you on how to safely travel on the glacier and then you’re off to explore an ancient frozen river. You will spend approximately 1.5 hours on the ice with your guide during which time you will explore terrain that is full of mind blowing features and intense blue color. After we are finished hiking, the helicopter will pick you up, fly over the mountains and back down to Seward.

Unlikely Bowl Overnight
Activity provided by Exit Glacier Guides
Difficulty:
 Moderate

The stunning Unlikely Valley is an untouched hidden gem that we are now able to access for overnight stays.  Using an R44 helicopter as transportation for this tour, we are dropped into an area that is far removed from any signs of human activity.

Our camp is set up on the banks of a river whose water source comes from four beautiful glaciers that are right next to each other on the mountainside.  From camp we have hiking access to an alpine glacier, we can check out the views from some nearby peaks, and there is plenty of opportunity to wander around the trail-less backcountry.  In the evening,  our guide will prepare a gourmet backcountry meal.

In the morning, after a guide prepared meal, the helicopter flies the group around the mountain to another, much larger glacier for some Ice Hiking and/or Ice Climbing.  On this second day of the tour, we spend four hours on the surface of an amazing glacier, exploring as much of the ice as possible.

This fully outfitted overnight is an active and action packed tour that is guaranteed to amaze.  We provide the tents, cookware, food, daypacks, trekking poles and all technical equipment.  All you need to bring is your own sleeping gear, personal clothing suitable for Alaska camping, and belongings.  A good camera is a must!
